PERIODONTOLOGY

Periodontology

The field of dentistry called periodontology is the treatment of all forms of gum disease which are commonly called periodontopathy. When the gingiva is in advanced chronic inflammation it is called periodontopathy

What is periodontology?

The branch of dental medicine called periodontology is the treatment of periodontics, i.e. supporting structures of the teeth, which are gingiva, cement of the teeth, alveolar cup in which the tooth is located and ligaments (fibers) that connect the teeth with the dental alveoli. In modern society, periodontopathy is the most present disease of humanity. Periodontology makes periodontopathy treatment possible.

What is periodontopathy?

Periodontopathy is a disease. It inflames and destroys the periodontal ligament, the gums, the alveolar bone and the cement i.e. supporting teeth tissues, and in the end leads to wobbling and loss of teeth. This disease is often called periodontitis, but it is not an accurate dental name.

What causes periodontopathy?

The main factor that causes this disease is dental plaque. It is the soft deposits that are located on the teeth in which colonies of bacteria live, which were directly with their toxinsparadentopatija and enzymes, or indirectly through the organic reaction of the organism, damaging all the supporting tissue of the teeth. Factors which significantly contribute to the origin and development of periodontopathy and accelerate dental destruction are smoking, genetic predisposition and certain systemic diseases such as diabetes.

Local factors, which comes out of the oral cavity and contribute to faster development of the disease are, irregular build of supporting tissue, inappropriately made prosthetic adaptations and fillings (seal), food stuck, dental caries, traumatic contact, so as and the solid plaque (concrement and tartar) . That’s why we say that problems such as dental plaque, teeth and dental caries should not be taken easily. However, even if a bigger problem arises, Dentalux is here to offer a solution.

How common is periodontopathy?

Periodontopathy today, as well as dental caries, is one of the most common diseases in humans, which, in any case, has been contributed to the modern way of diet due to the use of the nonabrasive soft and the mash food, which contains a lot of sugar and fat. Statistics indicate that the most adult world population is affected by periodontopathy. Namely, about 95% of the adult population has some form of this disease.

What signs and symptoms do periodontopathy manifest?

The main sign of periodontopathy is the periodontal pocket. Further signs and symptoms with which periodontopathy is manifested are calculus and dental plaque, inflammation and bleeding of the gingiva (gums), unpleasant breath, retracting of the gum and bearing of the roots and neck and wobbly teeth. In the final phase, wobblyness and tooth loss occur. The course of the disease is slow in the most number of cases, and the periods of improvement and worsening alternate. However, it can also be very fast, and sometimes it leads to tooth loss in a short time. As for the localization, it is sometimes limited to individual teeth, but it can also affect all teeth of one or both jaws.

What does the treatment of periodontopathy look like?

When it is about periodontopathy, the treatment is long-term and complex. Effectiveness for the treatment of periodontopathy is dictated by the patient’s readiness to cooperate and his motivation but also adequate oral hygiene must be established. This sometimes implies a significant change in the patient’s hygienic habits regarding the brushing of the teeth, the use of threads and interdental brushes, as well as the solution used for rinsing the mouth. The huge importance of the patient’s oral hygiene is in the way that eliminates dental plaque, which is the main causing factor of periodontopathy.

When the patient’s problem is periodontopathy, treatment cannot be successful without the application of adequate oral hygiene! As for the treatment plan, it depends on how severe the condition is on the supporting apparatus of the teeth, and it includes therapeutic procedures and measures such as: general and local use of antibiotics, treatment of complications, surgical treatment, replacement of inappropriate prosthetic works and fillings, processing i.e. gingival curettage (periodontal pocket). Periodontopathy therapy includes dentists of different specialties. Periodontopathy treatment has been enabled by periodontology – a science that deals with this problem which is present today

What does surgical treatment of periodontopathy look like?

Flap operations tj. Surgical therapy of this disease involves making an incision, after which the gingiva around the tooth is lifted and the periodontal pocket is cleaned under direct eye control. During the intervention, it is possible to add artificial bones and membranes which will accelerate the repair of periodontial tissues. The goal of surgical therapy of this disease is to reduce the depth that the periodontal pocket has, and remove the so-called mucogingival anomaly, and create the conditions for the patient to prevent the return of the disease of adequate use of oral hygine. In surgical therapy of this disease, co2 laser is used in our office. We also have a low level laser therapy, the use of which is recommended in conservative therapy of periodontopathy.

What is a periodontal pocket?

When it is about periodontal disease, periodontal pocket and pocket curettage are often mentioned. Periodontal pocket occurs as a consequence of bone destruction around the teeth (alveolar bone), and as a consequence of bone damage, a space is created between the gum and the teeth periodontal pockets a basic symptom of this disease. These PARODONTOPATIJAdamages are always recognizable and similar. Therapy is always aimed at elimination of the periodontal pocket.

What is pocket curettage?

Circuit of pockets (processing of periodontal pocket) is a therapeutic procedure in which work is made to reduce or completely eliminate periodontal pockets. It is a simple method and painless intervention, because it is performed in local anesthesia. Technically well performed and correctly indicated circuit of pockets gives very good results, on the condition that the patient cooperates and adequately maintains oral hygiene. After curetting, periodontal pockets are either reduced or completely removed, and destructive processes are slowed or stopped.

How is periodontopathy prevented?

In order to avoid periodontopathy threatment, you should focus on prevention. It is impossible to stress the importance of prevention and proper oral hygiene too many times, because we know what consequences periodontopathy can have. It is obligatory to brush your teeth regularly, at least two times a day for two minutes, which of special importance to clean the part of the teeth which is in the immediate area of the gums, because it accelerates the removal of bacteria.

If a subgivingal plaque occurs (the one which is lower under the gum and therefore it is difficult to clean), it is necessary to react immediately. It is necessary to take care of cleaning each individual tooth from all sides. In some cases, we will recommend you the use of antiseptic water for rinsing your mouth, or even antibiotics, on which a decision is made, individually for every patient.

If you notice dental cavities, you need to remove them and be sure to visit a dentist. Such treatment will help prevent the progress of periodontopathy. Hygiene itself will not eradicate the disease, but without it there is no progress. Never neglect dental plaque, dental caries, dental plaque and other problems, but contact your dentist immediately. In cases when periodontopathy appears, treatment is possible only with your cooperation.

What do you need to know when it is about periodontopathy and what are the stages of the disease?

We have decided to sum up everything you need to know about periodontopathy, in order to fully understand this disease. It is a disease of the tissues around the teeth, i.e. the tissues that hold the tooth in the jaw.

The basic and first symptom that the patient can notice is when the gingiva is bleeding (i.e. Bleeding gums). However, at the beginning of the disease, periodontopathy does not give any symptoms, that is why patients are mainly not aware in the beginning of periodontopathy. It is a disease of the dental supporting tissue, alveolar bone, periodontium, which is composed of gums, bone surrounding the tooth, tooth cementum and periodontal fibers, which in the final stage of the disease can lead to migration, wobbling and teeth falling out.

This disease can also lead to some other, serious diseases if it is not detected and timed out on time.

Number of studies have been shown that gum diseases can significantly affect the deseasess of heart and blood vessel, because bacteria and their toxins that go through the thin mucosa membrane in the mouth.

Periodentosis is the same as periodontopathy is just not an accurate dental term, although it is often used. This disease develops in four stages.

Paradentologija

In the third stage, that pocket is expanding and that is the period when sometimes it is necessary to perform surgery, but the tooth loss may not happen. In the fourth, final stage of the disease, therapy is expensive and complicated, and the prognosis for teeth preservation is uncertain. The causes of this disease are irregular visits to the dentist and poor hygiene, and other factors such as bad habits, stress and messy life can also contribute. We prevent diseases with responsible relationship and good hygiene.

Alternative methods of “treatment”, such as “mouth flushing with alcohol due to disinfection”, the use of baking soda and the like are not effective, they are often harmful and definitely not a replacement.

Like all dental diseases, this can have unsuccessful ventures and successful healings. It definitely depends on your attitude towards dentistry and hygiene, and on your doctor’s knowledge, experience and dedication. Even if there are dental plaque and cavities on the teeth progressed so much to make a problem with periodontopathy, it is possible to remove it and fix the condition. That is why the only and right place where you need to call and approach the treatment of the disease is just a dental office. Treatment includes measures that should be applied for a long time, and is determined by your dentist after assessing the severity of the condition.
