Dental implants are made of titanium and are a substitute for a tooth root. When installed, you cannot see them as they are placed under the gums. The implant is the basis for a crown that replaces one or more teeth.

What makes dental implants the best solution for treating missing teeth?

Dental implants look and function like natural teeth but can never get a cavity. An alternative to implant placement is to make a fixed bridge, but this requires grinding natural teeth in front of and behind the missing tooth (teeth) that will support the missing tooth (or teeth). If the lost tooth is not replaced, irreversible changes occur damaging whole masticatory system: the bone around the extracted tooth deteriorates, the teeth in the same jaw move and lean towards the empty space, the teeth from the opposite jaw ‘float’, thereby disturbing both the aesthetics and function – these changes can lead to disruption in the temporomandibular joints and craniomandibular disorders. Dental implants integrate into the jaw bone and contribute to its preservation.

Is implant placement painful?

No. Implant placement is a painless intervention performed under local anaesthesia. If you have an extreme fear of dental interventions we have the solution for you. All procedures can be done in sedation with the presence of anaesthesiologists.

How long does an implant last for?

If properly cared for, a dental implant can last a lifetime.

What is the dental implant process like?

The process of implant placement begins with an examination. If necessary, we’ll take impressions and make photographs (and other diagnostic procedures). After a thorough examination, the patient needs to make a 3D x-ray(CBCT x-ray) of the region where the implant placement is planned. Placement and planning are performed by our doctors Dr. Zoran Stajic, oral surgeon, and Dr. Srdjan Konatar, a specialist in dental prosthetics(prosthodontist). At the next visit, the doctor will first extract the tooth (if there is a tooth to be extracted). If there is not enough bone at the implant site, he will add a bone replacement or bone graft to provide a firm base for the implant. He will then place the implant. In some cases, implantation is possible on the same day(together with tooth extraction and bone augmentation procedure), but sometimes it is necessary to wait for the bone to heal, which can be 3-6 months.

When can I get my teeth?

In most cases, on the same day that the implant is placed, we can make and place a temporary crown, so that you leave the office with your tooth(teeth). A temporary tooth should allow favourable healing of the gums around the implant, but also allow you to function normally and laugh freely during the healing of the implant, which usually takes 3-6 months. After that, definitive restorations are made.

What will the restorative component of the implant therapy be?

  • It depends on how many teeth do you miss:
    • If you are missing one tooth you need one implant that supports one crown.
    • If you miss several teeth, the solution is an implant-supported bridge.
    • If you miss all your teeth, the solutions are implant-supported dentures or a bridge that relies on 4 or 6 implants. You can check out more on our All-on-4 page

When can I go back to work?

Placing implants usually lasts less than 2 hours (the duration varies, of course, depending on each patient’s special needs and the number of implants to be placed). Most people can return to work the day after the intervention. Patients should refrain from strenuous physical activity immediately after the intervention, and avoid hot, spicy and rough food. A soft and liquid diet immediately after implant placement is recommended. We’ll go over all of the aftercare with you so you know the best way to take care of your new implant!

Is there any possibility of my body rejecting the implant?

The possibility that your body rejects the implant has been minimized in modern implantology. However, certain rules must be followed. Several risk factors can diminish success: the general health of the patient (certain diseases that hinder healing, uncontrolled diabetes, cigarette smoking or the use of various medications or drugs, poor oral hygiene, etc.) and the availability and quality of jaw bone. The presence of any of these conditions doesn’t mean that we cannot successfully place the implant, but in those cases, therapy should be modified to minimize the risk. This is where the quality of the implant system, the knowledge, experience, and skills of our doctors come to the fore. Oral surgeon Dr. Stajic and prosthodontist Dr. Konatar always participate in the treatment planning at our clinic, and, if necessary, other specialists are involved, which is the main reason for the high success rate of implant therapy in our practice of 99.5% in the previous 15 years. On top of this, Nobel Biocare provides a lifetime warranty on its implants so you can be sure that you will receive the best possible treatment at Dentalux. You can find more information about the Nobel Biocare Warranty at https://www.nobelbiocare.com/international/en/warranty-program or get it from our office staff.

Implants and all-ceramic crowns

l

I am very pleased that I came to see Dr. Zoran and Dr. Srdjan, who are experts and have placed my implants. I am particularly pleased that it is made by modern principles and high-quality materials. I would advise anyone who has lost their teeth and who can afford to fix their problem with implants. I have had implants placed in Germany before, so I have this experience, but I can say that in Serbia dentists are real professionals, that everything went smoothly from the beginning, and that I did not have any pain. Thanks to the whole Dentalux team for my natural smile.
